The Priest of Zeus seeks help from King Oedipus. He thanks Oedipus for freeing them from the Sphinx but knows that the people of Thebes, including himself, did not teach Oedipus anything; no skills, or extra knowledge yet he is still a great King. The Priest calls down Apollo to help with the plague in Thebes because Oedipus cannot help his people. He also speaks for the people of Thebes because they feel as if he is wiser than most.
